ESS GIS applications range from
global to
local, city level, scales.
Within any given application, a hierarchy of nested regions and map
coverages is supported, with maps of different resolution integrated
tranparently, depending on the region choosen. For better performance,
large maps can be tiled, and preprocessed in various resolutions: these will
be switched transparently according to the zoom and resulting scale factors.
