E!3266 WEBAIR: The project consortium
Institute for Mathematical Modeling,
Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow, RUSSIA
Contribution to the Project
IMM-RAS is contributing its considerable expertise in mathematical modelling and numerical methods.
Specific tasks will include the development of the TIMES 3D dynamic model system,
extensions to include and represent mobile and volume sources
such as aircraft start- and landing cycles at airports, as well as the treatment of
complex city geometries or industrial areas with local building obstacles in addition to orography.
A major technical innovation and extension will be the implementation of the air quality modelling tools
on parallel computing architectures under MPI (message passing interface) in order to achieve
the high performance necessary for complex, high resolution models within a real-time framework.
In collaboration with the Institute for Global Climate and Ecology, a local to regional pilot application
for an appropriate location in Russia is foreseen.
Expertise
IMM-RAS is a prestigious institution within the Russian Academy of Sciences,
with world-wide renown for its achievements in mathematical modelling,
and environmental modelling in particular.
Complex dynamic three-dimensional codes for phenomena ranging from micro- to macro-scale
have been modelled by the team of the IMM-RAS, always at the forefront of
computational sciences in a broad range of application domains.
Experience includes successful collaboration in numerous international collaborative research projects,
including several projects in collaboration with ESS in Austria.
