Regional DUST (PM10, PM2.5) forecasting
The dust model combies pyrogenic emissions (from the source inventory) and wind driven
dust entrainment from natural sources, unpoaved roads, fallow agricultural areas,
or open cast mining.
The model uses the hourly wind speed forecasts from MM5 (interpolated to a 1 km resolution)
and processed with a Weibull function to generate a distribution of wind speeds within the hour.
Soil moisture (MM5 generated), soil types, and vegetation (NDVI combined with land use
data and derived from MODIS) are used to estimate wind erosion/entrainment,
generating emission matrices for CAMx for further fate and transport modeling.
