Flue gas desulfurization (FGD) is a technology used to remove sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the exhaust flue gases of fossil fuel boilers such as thermo-electric power plants. Coal, and oil, but also fuels such as bunker oil (for ships) and diesel oil (for trucks and cars) do contain various amounts of sulphur, that converts to SO2 during combustion.
