JORDAN: Gulf od Aqaba

The Gulf of Aqaba represents the northernmost part of the Red Sea; shared between Egypt, Israel, Jordan and Saudsi Arabia, it is set off from the main body of the Red Sea by the Strait of Tiran and Ras Mohammed.

The Northernmost part is well sheltered, with a comparatively low level of cuurents and water exchange. The very rapid development of the coastal zone on both the Western (Eilat) and Eastern (Aqaba) sides have led to a marked deterioration of the coral reefs, even though species diversity is still very high.
