Project Partners: ELARD, Lebanon
ELARD, Earth Link & Advanced Resources Development will be the lead partner for the Lebanese case study, contribute to the socio-economic tasks in particular on institutional issues, and contribute to the comparative assessment and best practice work package. ELARD is a highly specialized consulting firm that employs professionals in the field of applied earth and environmental sciences, including solid waste management, water resources management and development, water and wastewater treatment, pollution containment and abatement, and environmental policy development and institutional strengthening. The firm's staff includes professionals trained in environmental and civil engineering, geology, hydrogeology, geophysics, hydraulic engineering, and other areas of the applied earth and environmental sciences, such as biology, agricultural and chemical engineering. The firm's primary assets reside in its staff who have local and international experiences, in solving complex problems pertaining to a variety of projects. Many of the associates of ELARD have pioneered innovative concepts in dealing with environmental and water quality issues that have been recognized by foreign regulatory agencies such as the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the United States Corps of Engineer. Areas of work include: Initial Master Planning and Feasibility Studies, Assessment of Water Reuse/Recycling, Water Institutional Development, Design and installation of water pumping and treatment systems (Potable, Industrial and Sanitary), Water Usage Evaluation Groundwater Flow and Contaminant Transpor Modeling, Surface Water Modeling, Development of integrated environmental master plans for river basins and coastal zones, Institutional Strengthening and Capacity Building, Development of Institutional Environmental Strategies and Long Term Work Plans. Ms. Joanna Doumar Mr. Alain Doumit Mr. Issam Bou Jawdeh is a Hydrogeologist. Mr. Bou Jawdeh holds a Masters degree in structural geology from the American University of Beirut. He has over 6 years of experience in the fields of geology and hydrogeology. He currently holds the position of Project Hydrogeologist at ELARD. He has successfully conducted and led numerous missions related to hydrogeological investigations, geological mapping, structural geology, and fracture analysis. He combines advanced skills in field mapping together with analytical skills for data processing and analysis using advanced software and GIS tools. Mr. Marc Metni is an Environmental Scientist and Hydrogeologist. Mr. Metni holds a Masters degree in Environmental sciences from the American University of Beirut. His research activities culminated into the development of a vulnerability map for groundwater aquifers in Lebanon. He has used the DRASTIC methodology to develop the vulnerability map. At ELARD, he has successfully completed a vulnerability assessment for karstic groundwater resources using the EPIK methodology, specifically designed for karstic aquifers. He has extensive experience in manipulating and managing large data sets using GIS in order to fully benefit from the usefulness of the available data.
