RiverBasinObject: River Basins
A river basin is a standard OBJECT with META DATA and attributes,
including model scenario and links to several other OBJECTS as
sibblings or children, with aggregate attributes derived from them.
OBJECTS SELECTOR
The entry point to the RiverBasin is a navigator/selector.
This shows an overview map (Mediterranean) with the location of the individual
asbin reference points (center of the bounding box of the watershed boundaries).
The selector shows:
- basin name
- country (can be used for filtering)
- one scalar attribute for ranking:
- basin size, population
- river length
- average flow
- longitude, latitude of the outflow
- precipitation, runoff-coefficient
- max. elevation, elevation difference, slope
Basin attributes
In addition to the above atributes that can be used for ranking,
the BASIN descriptipon includes:
- short textual META DATA as part of the header:
this describes the SOURCES OF INFORMATION rather than the basin itself !
- hypertext page including imagery (examples from /OPTIMA/cases.html);
- related link to a SlideShow object
- basin default map (including to a MapCatalog for the basin)
- Hydrological summary (similar as RRM summary)
- Sectoral demand/supply budget (similar to WRM summary)
- LINKS for:
- RBO selection, for monitoring stations, climate station, cities,
reservoirs, aquifers, irrigation districts, treatment plants, wetlands/RAMSAR sites
- GIS data (MapCatalog):
- Elevation distribution (linked to or derived from GIS MapServer eventually)
- land use maps/distribution, optional link to LUC model
- RRM scenarios
- WRM scenarios
- STREAM scenarios
- Population data
- Socio-economic data
- ISSUES questionnaires (may need to be extended to link to a river basin)
- INSTITUTIONS/Stakeholders (may need to be extended to link to a river basin)
