RiverBasinObject: Wetlands

Wetlands describe places of specific hydrological but also often ecological interest such as lake districts, bogs and swamps, estuaries etc.

They are primarily described by their HEADER and in particular the hypertext description and imagery.

Other attributes are grouped into topics and shown in pop-up windows that are triggered by BUTTONS. They include:

GIS optional link to a detailed local mapset with landcover information;
Hydrology describing water demands (usually minimum flow), but also the retention capacity that often is crucial in flood mitigation;
Ecologydescribes the basic ecological function including the main species, and in particular any endangered species;
Links to other related or nearby objects

Please Note: a wetland object may be very similar to a lake/reservoir object; if its function as a storage body and flow regulator (especially if regulated) dominate, it should be classified as a lake or reservoir; if its ecological functions and biodiversity or specific, endangered flora and fauna dominate, it should be classified as a wetland (see also: parks and nature reserves.
