RiverBasinObject: Sub-catchments
Sub-catchments, basin, or watershed describe hydrological catchment areas;
They are described by their HEADER and in particular the
hypertext description and imagery, map location and extent (basin boundaries).
Other attributes are grouped into topics and shown in pop-up windows
that are triggered by BUTTONS. They include:
- Attributes basic list of characteristics (Descriptors);
- Economy employment and value generated by main sectors:
agriculture, industry, services; optional: total and per capita GRP.
- Geometry detailed area elevation curve with separate editor;
- Land cover/land use Table of extended CORINE classes, parallel
land use map;
- GIS optional link to a detailed local mapset including DEM,
landcover, and soils.
- Links to other related objects such as monitoring stations, settlements,
irrigation districts, farms, industries, treatment plants, aquifers,
reaches, etc.
The Attributes list of Descriptors includes:
| Basin data and geometry: |
| catchment_size |
toal extend of the catchment (upstream of the outflow point)
in km2 |
| population |
total number of inhabitants, density per km² |
| basin_length |
approximate measure of the basins main extend (along the main channel); |
| min_elevation |
minimum elevation describes the elevation (masl) of the outlet; please
note that this should be consistent with the hypsographic curve specified
below) |
| max_elevation |
maximum elevation describes the maximum elevation of the watershed
boundary (catchment boundary); please note that this should be consistent
with the hyspographic curve specified below; |
| channel_length |
specifies the total length of the main (mainstream
and first-order tributaries) channel; |
| maximum channel_width |
approximate maximum width of the channel, usually at the outflow from the
basin |
| channel_width |
approximate average (characteristic) width of the channel,
e.g., corresponding to a point 2/3 from headwaters to outlet |
| drainage_length |
total length of the perennial channels in the
natural drainage system |
Land use/Land cover
Provides a tabular summary and editing facility for land use in %,
