Time Series Data Import: manual updating of existing time series data sets

Once an individual time series has been selected from the loist of time series data sets available at a gfiven monitoring station, the header button import leads can be used for the manual updated of an existing time series data set.

Othe than the import dialog for a completely new time series data set, this function is used to manually extend or patch an existing time series data set. This should be the exception, as the system is built on the assumption that the observation data are supplied in real-time and uploaded automatically, regularily.

However, if the automatic import fails for whatever reason, the missing data points can be imported manually, filling gaps or replacing (supposedly faulty) values..

Import Dialog

The pop-up window can be used to select the data source, a CSV file on the local client computer (PC).

This data file must conform to the standard format definitions for time series data import files:

TIMESTAMP,VALUE e.g:

    2004-01-01,111.0
    or
    2004-01-02 10:00,112.0
    2004-01-03 11:00,111.5
    ....
    
  • VALUE is one hourly data point per record, separated by NEWLINE.
  • TIMESTAMP is in the format YYYYMMDD [hh][:mm] where hh and :mm are optional.

Please note:   as of release R5.4, only the first explicit format with a time stamp for every record is supported.

Once the data are selected, the data set to be impotryed is displayed; continuing (button: save will put the data after successful format checking into the data base permanently.

Change logs

Whenever a data set is imported and modified manually, a change log is kept, that records the date, users, and values changed/replaced.

Exception handling

If the data set to be imported contains data for time stamps already in the data base, a warning is issued. The user can then decide to:
  • replace the value available;
  • replace all existing values unconditionally;
  • skip that value and continue the import process for all other data;
  • abor the import process.
