DUST: meteorological input data

    The DUST emission model for natural, wind entrained particulates provides an hourly estimate of PM10 on a 1 km regular grid.

    Dust model input data : Emission estimates are based on vegetation, soil properties and terrain data driven by the meteorological inputs wind speed and soil moisture.

    The meteorological data are based on MM5 (or alternatively WRF) generated model forecasts.

    The implementation of the meteorological model input is described using the example of the Cyprus model implementation.

Meteo data import and data transfer:

Meteo data forecast results are transfered from one of the ESS compute servers, e.g., mp3;

  • Destination server: e.g., 212.31.101.45 (DLI/Cyprus)
  • Application path: /data/cyprus/mm5/run/
  • Transfer script: import_DLI.sh
  • MM5 forecast script: run_mm5_forecast.sh
The script for data transfer to DLI server runs after the daily MM5 forecast has finished. It is called within MM5 forecast script with command:
    #DLI server
    /data/cyprus/mm5/run/import_DLI.sh $forecastDate1
    

The script copies MM5 output data (MMOUT_DOMAINx) to DLI server:

scp -P 2250 -r /data/cyprus/mm5/output/forecast/$date $DestinationServer:/data/cyprus/mm5/output/forecast/

This is followed by imports of MM5 scenarios for domains: LIFE, CYPRUS and CYPRUS COAST, defined at the ESS installation of the Cyprus model system (mirror installation).

The import/update of the MM5 scenarios is called using the script import_$DOMAIN.sh, which runs locally on the DLI server:

The animations (mpg) and images (png) are copied from application server at ESS to the DLI server

into directories: /var/www/html/DATA/CYPRUS/mm5/png/ and /var/www/html/DATA/CYPRUS/mm5/png/.

The MM5 scenarios

The descriptive (META) data for the scenarios are stored in the Database table: MM5.MM5_scenario
