Principal functions and activities: The Council of the European
Union announced in August 1994, the establishment of a European
Agency for Health and Safety at Work. The Agency's aim is to provide
Community bodies, Member States and those involved in the field
with the technical and economic information they need in order
to encourage improvements in the working environment as regards
the safety and health of workers. In order to achieve this aim,
the Agency is involved in a number of activities including: collect
and disseminate information in Member States in order to pass
it on to Community bodies, Member States and other interested
parties; collect information on research into health and safety
at work; organise conferences and seminars; supply Community bodies
and Member States with the information it requires to formulate
and implement judicious and effective policies; establish and
coordinate an information network in cooperation with the Member
States.

Status: Autonomous agency subordinate to central administration
whose main task is to survey the safety and health conditions
at workplaces.
Principal functions and activities: To survey the safety and health
conditions of workers at their workplaces; to develop research
about health and work conditions; to promote and divulge a range
of subjects related to the safety and health of workers at their
workplaces; to train workers and managers on the subjects related
to the safety and health at work; to train experts on prevention
issues; to prepare technical reviews and reports; to promote personal
protection equipment; to test the safety and health conditions
regarding machinery; to examine the work conditions; to manage
the safety liaison between Spanish Government and the EC. To publish
and sell all of the books, papers and films elaborated by this
Institute.
