Status: Subsidiary body of the International Social Security Association founded in 1976.

Principal functions and activities: Promote and develop occupational safety and health in the iron and metal manufacturing industry; develop strategies against the most frequent hazards and causes of accidents and investigate the practical in-plant application of safety and health measures. Organises international symposia on occupational safety. Gathers results of international studies and research. Creates working groups and expert groups on newly arising problems. Promotes research and development in the field of occupational safety. Presents scientific findings at international meetings.
