Spillcad: Data Management and Decision Support for Hydrocarbons Spills

DESCRIPTION

SPILLCAD its a program developed to analyse sites of hydrocarbon releases and to screen remediation projects. The program main feature is the possibility of display computed hydrocarbons concentrations on a map (DXF Format), which also shows wells, measurement points, isolines of computed concentrations. The graphical interface can also be queried to show the locations that comply with certain criteria (e.g., pollution concentration below a give threshold). The map can also be used to submit a query and analyse the concentration dynamics in time.

The package is composed by four connected, but independent modules: PROPS (evaluates the physical properties of the soil and of the pollutant), SPILLVOL (estimates the volume of spilled hydrocarbon, its concentration in the soil, determines well positioning to control the spill); ARMOS (solves an undergroud water problem with an analytical formula for water and a numerical procedure for hydrocarbons); SPILLTRANS (simulates the pollution transport due to an area source, dispersion, absortion, and biological decay of the pollutant).
