PRZM: Pesticide Root Zone ModelDESCRIPTIONThe Pesticide Root Zone Model (PRZM-2) is a one-dimensional, dynamic, compartmental model that can be used to simulate chemical movement in unsaturated soil systems within and immediately below the plant root zone. It has two major components-- hydrology (and hydraulics) and chemical transport. The model was specifically designed to provide loadings to selected media, including air, water, groundwater and plants. PRZM 2 is a daily-time-step agricultural field simulation model. Outputs include pesticide leaching depth, runoff volume, eroded sediment mass, pesticide movement with eroded sediment and runoff, and pesticide volatilization. Processes modeled include water movement through the soil profile, crop uptake, vapor phase transport, and irrigation. Two pesticide degradates can be modeled along with the parent. PRZM 2 has incorporated the VADOFT program which estimates chemical movement through the vadose zone below the surface soil. A Monte Carlo shell is also included.
