Communicable diseases in urban centers: Tuberculosis, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Our case study is organized in 3 lessons.
- The purpose of the first lesson is to familiarize the reader
with tuberculosis epidemiology, how it historically evolved,
which are the risk factors associated to its transmission and to
analyze the effectiveness of existing vaccination.
- The second lesson shows how the use of simpler differential
equations mathematical models can help us understand the dynamics of this disease
and choose control methods accordingly.
- The third lesson describes tuberculosis
epidemiology in Argentina, and particulary in the city of Buenos Aires.
In addition, this section shows the role that public transportation
can play in the transmission of this disease in big cities,
applying more complicated differential equation models than those described in the previous lesson.
We have included a glossary,
with the definition of epidemiological terms and parameters.
