Environmental Impact Assessment Case study:
Delimara Thermal Power Station, Malta
Data availability
The project uses the following data:
- Basic domain description: background maps (LANDSAT TM satellite imagery, selected local GIS data such
as administrative boundaries, road network (more than 340 road segments in the 12 km Delimarar domain);
- DEM (both 1 km and 30 m resolution versions, global public domain data);
- Delimara power station: current emission source (baseline)
and project/scenario (capacity extension) description;
Powperplant hourly emissions for the baseline/reference period (2008-2010)
- European background emissions (EMEP 2009)
- Sensitive receptor points
- Population data (currently reference points with community population data)
- Monitoring data (observation or simulated time series):
- Meteorology:
- monitoring data from the nearest station: Zejtun;
- model generated re-anlaysis data from NCEP FNL global meteo data, hourly for 2008-2010.
- Air quality
- Emissions: powerplant and several other locally contributing sources including traffic.
- Air quality standards, EU target and limit values
